Foundation For Youth Development, INC.

Meeting The Need For Intervention

About Us

The Foundation For Youth Development, Inc. (the Foundation) is a 501(c)(3) organization established specifically for the purpose of addressing the needs of at-risk youth.  Its organizers have specific experience in administration, education, outreach and child advocacy. It was through the organizers’ collective experiences that the unmet needs of at-risk youth were identified.

Mission Statement:  To equip at-risk youth with the skills necessary to become successful productive citizens in their respective communities and the world.

Vision Statement:  Youth from diverse backgrounds experiencing meaningful cross-cultural, life-enhancing opportunities and receiving invaluable mentoring that will positively influence their personal and professional success.

The year-round Youth Empowerment Program being implemented in the Memphis community is a comprehensive, collaborative approach to the seemingly overwhelming problems facing our youth.  Gang violence, drug use, the increase in the crime rate, teenage pregnancies, school drop-out rates, homicides and suicides disproportionately affect our youth making them at-risk and is literally killing their overall ability to succeed in today’s global society.

The Youth Empowerment Program provides mentoring and tutoring and includes a wide variety of workshops, cross-cultural activities, community service, field trips and positive interactions that will lead to the success of the targeted youth.  We will reach 35 to 40 at-risk youth each year in grades 4th through 12th ages 9 to 19.  The areas of focus include academic achievement, cultural enrichment, career development , personal development and welfare.  This intervention will help our youth in overcoming obstacles that impede their achievements both personally and professionally.

It is the purpose of the Foundation For Youth Development, Inc. to improve the well-being of at-risk youth.  The Foundation will provide the tools and opportunities to at-risk youth that will help them make healthier lifestyle choices.  These healthier choices will increase their potential to become productive citizens who give back to their respective communities and the world.
