In order to provide services to a targeted group of youth identified as “at-risk”, the Foundation for Youth Development, Inc. (the Foundation) has partnered with Memphis City Schools, Hickory Hill Community Center, University of Memphis, Volunteer Memphis, The Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Memphis, the Juvenile Court of Memphis and Shelby County, The Tea Room Charm and Finishing School, Joyce Wealth Management, Crite & Company, Memphis Academy of Health Sciences, Wilbur F. Hawkins and Associates, High Marks Academic Coaching, other community-based organizations and the Memphis community, as a whole.
The Memphis City Schools, Department of Student Support has authorized the Foundation to provide supplemental educational services or activities to students in Memphis City Schools.
The Hickory Hill Community Center, under the direction of Margaret Fluckers, is the site for the Youth Empowerment Program (YEP). The participants in the YEP will have access to all of the center's amenities in their pursuit of higher academic achivement and better health through physical fitness.
The University of Memphis, Student Affairs Department, has authorized the Foundation to actively solicit the participation of University of Memphis students in the Youth Empowerment Program as volunteer mentors and tutors. They will also serve as members of the Advisory Board.
Carrabba’s Italian Grill is a corporate sponsor and will serve as host organization for fundraising activities.
Volunteer Memphis will act as coordinator for the training of the mentors through the Memphis Mentoring Partnership.
High Marks Academic Coaching will provide tutors expertly matched to fit our youth’s needs with the goal of providing superior academic tutelage.
Cherryl Pigues Crite, owner of Crite and Company, is a certified computer technician. Ms. Crite will conduct computer technology training for our at-risk youth.
The Foundation has established a partnership with the Juvenile Court of Memphis and Shelby County to become a Referral Resource to help at-risk youth become productive citizens and not progress further within the juvenile justice system.
The Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Memphis will make available all of their programming activities and enrichment opportunities to the youth participating in the program.
Owner and Instructor of The Tea Room Charm and Finishing School, Angela Rixter-Kelley, will provide training focusing on proper dress, hygiene, social etiquette, business etiquette, and dining skills.
Other organizations and individuals have agreed to offer in-kind donations and mentorship. Wilbur F. Hawkins & Associates has donated the premier tracking and evaluation software package, Efforts to Outcomes (ETO).
Reverend Derrick Joyce, President and CEO of Joyce Wealth Management, has agreed to be a guest speaker on financial planning and wealth creation. Memphis Academy of Health Sciences' students will serve as peer tutors. Also, certain facilities will be made available by the Academy such as class and meeting rooms, the gymnasium and other spaces as needed if not otherwise being used.
The Foundation is a member of the Alliance for Non-Profit Excellence. The Alliance provides management support for non-profits that strive to meet community needs. The Alliance helps non-profits improve their management and governance and strengthen their effectiveness in achieving their mission.
The utilization of the resources throughout the Memphis community will expose our youth to academic enrichment activities, multi-cultural awareness, and personal and professional development opportunities that they will otherwise never experience. The Foundation formed these partnerships based on well-documented efforts by said entities to reach, support and improve the lives of youth in our community.
