Objectives

Objectives of the Youth Empowerment Program

1.  Academic Achievement

•    To instill in at-risk youth that they are capable of  high academic achievement.

•    To increase resources available to at-risk youth to enhance their ability to become life-long learners.

•    To intervene in the lives of at-risk youth by providing them with the skills and tools needed to reach their highest academic potential.

•    To foster in youth the interest and the motivation to remain in school, graduate and go on to college.

•    To provide opportunities and encouragement to parents to become involved in their children’s learning process.


2.    Cultural Enrichment

•    To improve the quality of at-risk youths’ extracurricular activities and integrate those activities closely with academic goals.

•    To expand opportunities for at-risk youth to interact positively in different environments and situations.

•    To enhance excellence through the understanding and acceptance of diversity.

•    To provide positive role models aiding at-risk youth in gaining a strong sense of self-worth.



3.     Personal Development and Welfare

•    To provide at-risk youth with rewarding experiences during which they can practice self-control, leadership and communicating.

•    To facilitate the development of constructive mentoring relationships between the at-risk youths and positive role models.
 
•    To create a safe and supportive learning environment for at-risk youth.

•    To provide high quality programs that support the academic, creative, personal and social development of at-risk youth at they grow toward adulthood.

•    To provide positive experiences in group participation and opportunities to build leadership skills.

•    To provide ways for at-risk youth to contribute to their community.

•    To intervene in the lives of at-risk youth in order to provide them with alternatives that lead them away from crime and violence.

•    To provide opportunities for regular physical activity of our at-risk youth.

•    To decrease the prevalence of youth obesity thereby decreasing the social discrimination endured by our overweight youth.

•    To develop the ability of at-risk youth to effectively communicate with others in a positive manner.

•    To prepare at-risk youth academically and socially so that their access to college and their potential for success in college is increased.

•    To prepare at-risk youth for different career opportunities that await them once they graduate high school.

•    To support at-risk youth and advise them how to overcome obstacles in order to reach their career goals.

•    To provide the tools to at-risk youth that are necessary for them to be successful professionally.
